Our Beer PhilosophyGo HERE to Vote on your favorite PH Brew

The fundamental reason for Power House Brewing Company and the Columbus Bar is the social and cultural aspect of both.  Beer has been with us since civilization’s beginning and pubs have been at the epicenter of human activity throughout the ages.  It is around this social and cultural connotation that the Power House concept has been designed.  We are making high quality session beers and serving them along side the world’s finest beers in a social environment.  By session beer we mean reasonable servings of low to moderate alcohol by volume beer.  So that more than one can be consumed among friends and family in a warm and inviting atmosphere.  Not all of our beers are session beers.  We will make some high gravity beers.  These beers should be treated like wine, (as really all beer should). They should be savored and enjoyed in small quantities, preferably with food.  These beers will pair well with a variety of food and age, again like wine.  We are a family establishment offering a family of fine beers.

At the 2005 Indy Jazz Fest in Indianapolis, Indiana, Tony Bennett , the headlining act said his son encouraged him to write his own songs.  He said that wasn’t what he did, that being a songwriter was not part of his artistic vision.  He was inspired to interpret classic pieces of music, what he called the great American songbook.  He does this well, his various interpretations of our fellow Hoosier, Cole Porter ’s tunes alone are diverse and capture the essence of our culture and this great nation, which is what we want to do in liquid form.

Like Tony Bennett, Power House Brewing Company is inspired to interpret classic beer styles rather than creating new styles or using exotic ingredients.  Not that we disapprove of the extreme beer trailblazers of American micro brewing.  As much as we are the Tony Bennett's they are the Cole Porters and as we grow and hone our craft we may interpret many of these new styles of beer as well.  Incidentally Tony Bennett does write some of his own songs now.

White River Brown Ale

White River Brown Ale:  A full bodied well-balanced mahogany colored brew with a good hop character, nutty flavor and off-white head.

It is a mid-pallet beer that is easily digestible and pairs well with most foods.

Winner of the Bronze Medal at the 2007 Brewer's Cup

Workingman Wheat

Workingman Wheat Ale: A classic German Hefe-Weiss style with a light straw color and subtle banana and clove flavors.  Great after a day of hard work!

Winner of the Silver Medal at the 2007 Brewer's Cup

Two Daves IPA
Two Dave's IPA: A hophead’s dream. A very drinkable ale with a deep golden color, dense white head and prominent hop aroma and flavor.  Very hoppy dry finish.

Ancient Amber

Ancient Amber:  Sweet, malty, lightly hopped.  A good  unique amber beer.  Different enough from others in the style to set it apart, yet not over powering.  Well balanced with an excellent color.

Diesel Oil Stout

Diesel Oil Stout: a Milk Stout that focuses on dark roasty malts and lots of hops.  In fact we only use milk sugar to help balance the beer.  Diesel Oil Stout lives up to its name, it is black as diesel soot with a rich brown head and lots of flavor.

Columbus, Indiana, home of Power House Brewing Co. is also home of Cummins Inc. makers of Diesel engines and Diesel Oil Stout is named in honor of all the hardworking men and women of Cummins who visit us on a regular basis.

Featured at the 2007 Indianapolis Brewer's Fest

Blackhole Porter

Blackhole Porter: The beer that collasped due to it's own gravity. A dark creamy delight.  No light escapes this sweet malty beer with a mild hop finish.

Wee Heavy Scotch Ale

Wee Heavy Scotch Ale:  A mildly smoky sweet malty beer, perfect for a wet winter day.

Columbus Common

Columbus Common:  An easy going beer for easy going people.  This "Common Style" beer is medium in body with a rich golden color.  Subtle malty sweetness makes this a beer as unique as the city of Columbus itself.
